Tomoko Hojo (b. 1988) was born in Aichi, Japan. The artist earned a Bachelor’s degree in Musical Creativity and the Environment at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2012, followed by a Master’s degree in Creativity of Arts and the Environment at the same university in 2015, where she received the Postgraduate Acanthus Music Prize, and later completed a Master’s degree with Distinction in Sound Arts at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London in 2016.

In the field of experimental music and sound art, Hojo works in various forms, such as composition, score-based or improvised performance, installation, and academic research. Focusing on silenced voices, particularly those of women, in history or archives. Through playful exploration, Hojo proposes alternative possibilities and exposes hidden frameworks and gaps in truth by examining the relationship between past events, documentation, and representations. Recently, the artist has reimagined undocumented past works of artists such as Yoko Ono and adapted them to contemporary contexts. Hojo applies their fundamental concept to explore the historical position of experimental music and sound arts, seeking to understand where their work fits into these marginal genres without a single linear history.

Hojo has won numerous awards and grants in her career as a sound artist, as well as undertaken residencies across the world and participated in various art biennales.



北條知子(1988年生)は、愛知県出身のアーティストです。彼女は2012年に東京藝術大学で音楽創造と環境の学士号を、2015年に同じ大学で芸術と環境の創造の修士号を取得し、修士課程ではアカンサス音楽賞を受賞しています。その後、2016年にイギリス・ロンドン芸術大学ロンドン・スクール・オブ・ コミュニケーションではサウンドアートの修士号をオナーズ(優等)にて取得しています。

北條は、実験音楽とサウンドアートの分野で、作曲、スコアベースまたは即興パフォーマンス、インスタレーション、学術研究など、さまざまな形式で活動しています。彼女は、歴史やアーカイブにおける特に女 性の沈黙した声に焦点を当て、遊び心のある探究を通じて、代替的な可能性を提案し、過去の出来事、ドキュメンテーション、表現の間の関係を調べることで真実の隠れた枠組みやギャップを明らかにします。近年、北條はヨーコ・オノなどのアーティストの未記録の過去の作品を再構築し、現代的な文脈に適応させました。北条は、実験音楽とサウンドアートの歴史的位置を探求し、これらのマージナルなジャンルが単一の線形の歴史を持たない場所を理解しようとします。

北條は、サウンドアーティストとしてのキャリアで数多くの賞や助成金を受賞し、世界中のレジデンーに参加し、さまざまなアートビエンナーレに参加しています。
