‘Ashi 足’ is the Japanese word for ‘leg’, the title of the work can be simply interpreted as ‘a plate with legs’. Handmade by the artist in Gifu 岐阜, Japan exclusively for SYNONYM; item located in Nagoya 名古屋, Japan. Along with Koukishin-Kun 好奇心くん and Kyoumishin-Kun 興味心くん, a series of works Yajima created for the presentation, Futamono ふたもの and Ashi no Aru Utsuwa 足のある器 were experiments attempted by the artist in exploring the extraordinariness of the mundane everyday life objects, with the same materials and similar techniques, resulting in a variety of different shapes and possibilities.
